An Easter To Remember
From a young age, Easter has always been my favorite celebration on the Christian calendar. I have fond memories of my grandmother sewing matching dresses for my sister and me, going to church as a family, and of course hunting Easter eggs and eating too much chocolate.
When I accepted Christ as my Savior at the age of 16, Holy Week became so much more meaningful and precious to me. Taking time to remember the gravity of what happened on the cross as Jesus’s body was torn for our forgiveness of sins, and then coming together on Easter Sunday to celebrate His resurrection is a highlight on my calendar each year.
For many, there is a sense of sadness that we cannot have our corporate time of celebrating our resurrected Christ this year. Little girls won’t be parading in their pretty Easter dresses and there won’t be the usual Easter egg hunt with friends.
These are all fun traditions, but let me tell you what we do have and what cannot be taken from us. We have an empty cross, because Jesus is now on the throne in heaven, risen and victorious. We have full payment for our sins, because He said yes to dying a sinners death on our behalf, because He loves us that much. We have a Jesus who took all our sickness on his body so we that we can be healed of every infirmity.
Easter does not look the ‘same as usual,’ but nothing about why we celebrate Easter has changed. Let us not forget the price paid and the victory that changes the course our destiny and eternity.
I believe His resurrection power is resurrecting many dreams and hopes in this season that have been put on hold due to busyness. Relationships are being healed as families spend more time together and connection with the Lord is deepened because of the gift of time. I understand there are many that are working around the clock and will need a break after this time but that is an opportunity for those who can, to hold them up in prayer. Let’s trust God together for His resurrection power to move in our homes, our churches and in the lives of those we love. Let’s trust Him for many to come to know our risen Lord as their Savior.
This will be an Easter to remember and we will hear many beautiful stories of His fingerprints all over this time!
