A Most Expensive Gift

There are many things that I love about this season. From the whimsical Christmas lights, to the delight on a child’s face as they open their favorite gift. I love the generous spirit as many take the opportunity to bless and serve those less fortunate than themselves with a gift or invitation to a meal. Amidst the chaos of the world, it’s refreshing to enjoy some light hearted fun with friends and family. This Christmas season also gives us moments to focus on the greatest gift ever given when the King of Kings chose a humble birth in a stable to bring us peace and freedom.

In a world desperately in need of peace and wise counsel, I am reminded that over and above the festivities , we have been given the most expensive gift we will ever know. A son was given who came as a baby and died a sinner’s death so that we could have everlasting life, everlasting peace, and everlasting wise counsel. This gift - whose name is Jesus - cares deeply for you and your welfare. He knew you and I would need the gift of peace that only He can give and so He chose to become our Prince of Peace who never leaves us or forsakes us. There is no where we can go where His peace will not find us. He knew we would need a wise counselor to guide us through the journey of life with all its ups and downs and challenges. He chose to come as our Wonderful Counselor. There is no counselor wiser than Him who knows us and loved us enough to give his life for us. He is the wisest One we will ever know and when we ask Him for wisdom, He will say, “this is the way, walk in it.”

For some, this season comes with pain as loved ones are no longer here, family members are at odds with one another, and relationships might not be at their best or even broken. In these times, we have the promise of an everlasting Father who wants to comfort us and remind us that He will never leave us or forsake us.

So as we embrace all the the wonders that this seasons holds, let’s remember the most expensive gift given to us. This gift didn’t come with a beautiful gold bow but rather as a baby born in a manger to a young couple who arrived on a donkey. This gift changed the course of our lives and defined history for eternity.

The Prince of Peace himself loves us with an everlasting love and His peace is extended to us in every situation. He is our wonderful counselor and there is nothing we will face where His wisdom won’t meet us and direct us.

May you and your loved ones embrace all the joy this season brings!

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭9:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬
