I am who He says I am
Most of us have a few people in our lives who just get us and see us for who we are. These are the people who don’t change the way they see us when we mess up or don’t act perfectly. These gifts in our lives speak truth and life over us even when we don’t believe it. The wonderful news is that we all have at least one person in our life who does the above and He is our Heavenly Father, the one who created us, loves us, and believes in us.
In Judges 8 we find Gideon hiding in a cave from the enemy. An angel comes to him in his fearful state and calls him a mighty man of courage. At this moment Gideon is understandably not a picture of great courage and yet this is what he’s called. His identity in God was set even though he wasn’t yet living into this truth.
Our identity in Christ is set as righteous, holy, beloved whether we believe it or not. The Lord then says to Gideon to ‘go in this your strength.’ I believe his strength is believing the truth of who God said he was. We become strong when we believe that we are who He says we are. When Gideon believed he was a mighty man of courage, he went on to destroy the enemy & bring about a miraculous victory! We become strong and live into the victory that is ours when we believe that we are who God says we are. The enemy wants to discourage us by whispering lies that we are not good enough, clever enough, rich enough etc.
Imagine what life would look like if we truly believe we are the beloved, chosen, courageous and highly favored sons & daughters of the Most High? I believe, like Gideon, we would begin to see victory upon victory manifest in our lives.
“And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, The Lord is with you, you mighty man of [fearless] courage.”Judges 6:12 AMPC
