Ephesians 6:18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.
Prayers are the seeds we sow today to produce tomorrows harvest. There are many fields we can travel to in prayer, sowing seeds for a kingdom crop. That’s why I appreciate the scripture in Ephesians 6 because it says we should pray on all occasion, when we’re happy, under pressure, in leisure, thinking about someone we care about or facing an enemy. It also says pray with all kinds of requests. This means that the hurried concerned prayer you prayed today was also acceptable. The short “help me” prayers or the “please watch over my children” prayers as well as the concerned prayers over global issues or life changing realities. The ongoing prayer of the long battle, or on behalf of a loved one or of a cherished dream, all kinds of prayer are acceptable. Come with hands full of seeds and spread all kinds of prayer seed in as many fields as you desire a harvest from. We can plant them and others may water them but God can make them grow.
It is amazing that the King of Glory offers partnership with us through our prayers. We can co-labor with Him, bringing our perspective, our desires and dreams into this partnership just as He invited us to do. Of course it springs from our vital union with Jesus. We are called to be fruitful in prayer and that fruitfulness brings glory to God.
John 15:7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
When we embrace God’s word and hold it dear to us it forms a platform of favor from which we are invited to ask. Bearing much God glorifying fruit and being fruitful in prayer springs from our willingness to sow our prayers like seeds from that platform. Is there an issue on your heart? Pray a prayer, sow a seed and watch what God can do with it. Learn to pray in the Spirit, that is asking Holy Spirit to teach you, what to pray, how to pray. It seems that when our prayers are so deep and our language is inadequate the Holy Spirit can even hear our groans and respond to those. He speaks “groaning” and answers even those prayers.
How many acres of harvest you’ll have is determined at the time of sowing. How many acres did you sow? The yield on those acres is up to the Lord. Sometimes 30, sometimes 60 and sometimes 100 fold.
So dear friend, gather up your seed bag and fill it with as many prayers on as many topics as you can and go out into your day as a seed sower. A great harvest awaits you.
